36 years ago today, Tammy Wynette’s most successful song, Stand By Your Man, reached No. 1, and would become one of the most covered country music songs according to This Day in Music.

Ironically, when Stand By Your Man reached No. 1 in 1975, Tammy had just divorced George Jones earlier the same year in March.  Not to worry, Wynette covered the alternative, with her other hit song D-I-V-O-R-C-E.
