Kate McGarrigle 1946-2010

Our condolences go out to the McGarrigle family and friends as we learn the news of Kate McGarrigle’s death at the age of 63 after battling a rare form of cancer.

Kate McGarrigle was a Canadian Folk Music singer-songwriter who collaborated closely with her family, as a duo with her sister Anna in the 70s, 80s and 90s and frequently in the 90s and 00s with her son Rufus and daugther Martha.

Kate and Ana McGarrigle sang in English and French, traditional folk songs as well as original songs, that would be covered by others such as Linda Rondstadt and Elvis Costello.

Kate McGarrigle performs Proserpina

Kate performed as recently as December 9th, 2009 at  The Christmas Concert, A Not So Silent Night, at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK, December 9th, 2009.  Kate performed one of her recent songs, a very touching story, Proserpina.


The Kate McGarrigle Fund

Kate set up the Kate McGarrigle Fund, with the Cedars Cancer Institute and the MUHC, to support patient care and research into cancer at McGill University.
