Kris Allen is crowned American Idol 2009

Kris Allen says “Adam deserves this”…  Simon says “what?” … but not in that order …

The final results show of American Idol 2009 is here and starts off with Ryan saying that just under 100,000,000 votes were cast.  An entertaining collage of video clips of the judges follows, in which utter their trademark phrases:  for Randy Jackson, “for you for me”, Kara DioGuardi “Sweetie”, Paula Adbul “<incomprehensible>”, and Simon Cowell “what?”.

Adam and Kris, dressed all in white, watch live feeds of their screaming fans from Conway, Arkansas and Sand Diego, California.

The Top 13, dressed all in white,  perform So What, with good energy, but with a rather basic choreography.  So nice to hear Alison Iraheta’s voice again though – she’s a rock star!

Last year’s Idol, David Cook performs his song Permanent, that he wrote and dedicated for his brother, Adam who was battling cancer.  His voice is beautiful and the song and performance touching.  The song will be on iTunes with proceeds going to a foundation raising money for cancer research.

The awards part of the show always makes me a  tad uncomfortable. This is where they show the best of the worst and strangest of the auditions.  But Nick Mitchell, the winner, is as funny as ever … where is the show America’s Funniest Singer?

Lil Rounds gets to sing with Queen Latifa, what a great pair.  Great performance by the duo of Latifa’s latest single Cue the Rain, released yesterday.  Anoop, Alexis and others of the Top 13  follow with Jason Mraz and his hit I’m Yours.

Kris Allen’s American Idol’s journey is shown in video clips and of course, his humility shines throughout the journey.  He sings Kiss a Girl with Keith Urban! What a perfect match of voices! Urban really seems to enjoy sharing the stage with Kris.

The girls perform Glamorous followed by fergie herself and then the Black Eyed Peas. Adam could have performed well with them, particularly with fergie!

The awards continue with Best Attitude, with the award going to Katrina Darell who shows up of course wearing nothing but a pink bikini. And they let her, well actually encourage her to sing. Kara joins her, but Katrina definitely does not want to share the mic and sing with her!

Alison Iraheta and Cindy Lauper sing Time after Time. Wow! It’s fantastic.  Alison is such a talented singer and their voices blend surprisingly well, for such two unique voices.

Danny Gokey’s back to sing Lionel Richie’s Hello, so touchingly and then welcome’s Lionel Richie to the stage and sings with him, really well! Ah the professionals make it look so easy don’t they! Danny looks really happy to sing with him!

Adam’s idol journey shows a sequence of great singing moments, he follows on stage with a performance of Kiss’s Beth. Kiss explodes on to the stage, where Adam performing with Kiss, is in his element, but looking a tad normal beside these guys!  I Wanna Rock ‘n Roll all night gives Adam the perfect opportunity to rock it out .. in crazy high platform boots!

Carlos Santana, plays guitar on Black Magic Woman for Matt Giraud and the other Top 13 2009 idols.

Of course the surprise for Adam and Kris is a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid for each of them.  The next surprise for us is Steve Martin, yes the comedian, performs banjo for Michael Sarver, Megan Joy who sing Martin’s song Pretty Flowers.  It’s a a performance that seems a bit out of place for such a big night on such a big stage, and not necessarily the best song choice for Sarver and Joy.

The top boys are back in black suits and ties, to perform the great Rod Stewart disco hit, If you want my Body. Followed by the man himself, Rob Stewart, who does not disappoint with Maggie May.  Why isn’t Danny singing with him, their voices would be great together!

The last golden idol award for outstanding female goes to, oh my god aaaaahhh, Tatiana Del Toro! Enough already.

The final two, sing the Queen hit We are the Champions, Adam rocks it of course, Kris holds his own, they really do seem to be friends on the stage, and there’s nothing like having Queen on the stage with them!  Great performance to polish off the show.

It’s almost time for the results, but not before Simon says he thinks that  “they were both brilliant, incredibly nice people, they should be proud of what they achieved last night and the future is both theirs”.

Ryan asks for the lights to be dimmed and announces “The winner of American Idol 2009 is Kris Allen”.  The first words from Allen is that “Adam deserves this”. He is so humble, and you have to love him for it.

Kris sings No Boundaries and another season closes.

I’m done with Idol… Was actually the first time I was watching it! They robbed Adam and even Kris said it!

I’m glad that Kris won. Adam will make it anyway. It was a great show, a bit over the top for my taste but that’s why it’s called American idol!

I agree with GennyG, Adam will make it on its own or with a band. I see him more in a group than by himself! I am happy for Kris

i wish Kris would embrace his victory better, but maybe he just needs some time for it all to soak in… In any case he’d better not wait too long, Adam is already swooping in to steal his thunder

Kris and Danny were both devout Christians. Danny lost last week, and Kris picked up his Christian vote to give him the win. Adam does appeal to the religious right.
We should know better than to underestimate the influence of the religious right.

Hi! I’m a devout Christian and a working mother of two boys. Each time I watch American Idol’s performance finale replayed, I can not help but ask: What is wrong with America? America’s vote for Kris Allen, or America’s vote against Adam Lambert, seems to be a contemptuous hate vote against various sectors of society that Adam Lambert appears to stand for. People forgot that American Idol is a singing contest, not a political battle nor a popularity contest among class of persons. It’a singing talent contest that is open to all, regardless of orientation or religion. And of all its contestants, Adam Lambert consistently proved to be the amazingly innovative artist and the best singer, gifted with a powerful voice. ADAM LAMBERT DESERVED TO WIN. Even Kris knows this within his Christian heart, so much so that when he was unexpectedly handed the undeserved title, he evidently became perplexed and then asserted in open public that “Adam deserves this…” – instinctively repudiating the unbelievable subsuming vote results and in righteous adherence to glaring truth. You could actually count so many seconds before the puzzled Kris finally acquiesced to receive the undeserved crown, but only after Adam graciously approached to place his arm around Kris’ shoulder in encouragement. Adam Lambert is the true winner. Should I also ask: What is wrong with this American Idol TV show?

Well Kris Deserved it and that is it… Everyone needs to stop saying it was robbed from Adam. There was a reason Kris made it all the way America Loved him, look at Danny everyone thought he would make it and look America liked Kris more… I am also a Christian Worship Leader and I feel we need to give Comgrats where it is deserved and stop being angry toward the outcome….

Kris does not deserve the title. In the course of manipulations, people lost respect of the fact that American Idol is a singing talent competition that’s open to all, regardless of being straight or gay, Christian or Jewish, middle-class or lower-class, clean-cut or styled-glam; and voters forgot that it is not a popularity contest for class of persons — neither a battle for political leadership, not a crusade for for religious revival, nor a media technology war game. If people’s perceptions and judgment are still warped until now… Hello, people: American Idol is a singing contest!
