14 World Records Achieved by Singing Humans
Just as the Whos in Whoville demonstrated to the garlic-souled Grinch on Christmas morn, you can take away people’s ribbons, you can take away their tags, you can take away their packages, their boxes, and their bags, but you simply cannot stop people from singing. From the shower to the international stage, here are some folk didn’t want to sing…they HAD to sing.
Longest singing marathon by multiple singers:
On January 27th 2008 the Mandd Sobhann Cultural Orgnanization set a new Guinness World Record in Managalore, India. Without taking any breaks, 44 different groups consisting of 1,711 singers sang for 40 hours, belting out 645 songs in the Konkani language. The incredible feat took nearly a year of careful planning, as it was just as much a test of organizational skills as it was of singing endurance.

Suresh Joachim makes his living challenging world records. The 38 year old from Mississauga, Canada has already broken 33 Guiness World Records, helping raise money for underprivileged children. In Brampton’s Shoppers World mall, Joachim, wearing a white suit with black and gold trim, an extravagant wig and sunglasses, launched into “Heartbreak Hotel.” He gyrated, hip shook and blue suede shoed his way into the record books once more by impersonating the great Elvis Presley for a total of 55 hours.
Lowest note produced by a human
Raised in Waterloo, Indiana and after having sung for most of his life with groups like Freedom, Vocal Union, AVB, Acappella and Rescue, Tim Storms set the Guiness World Record for the lowest note ever produced by a human by vibrating his vocal cords at 8 Hz. The note is two octaves below the lowest B on a piano, making it too low for human ears to pick up. He also holds the world record for widest vocal range (six octaves) for a male.
Highest note produced by a human
Georgia Brown, a singer from Brazil holds the world record for hitting the highest vocal note at G10 (25087 Hz), as well as having the greatest vocal range spanning 8 octaves from G2-G10.

Longest group karaoke marathon
The first Guinness World Record of 2008 belonged to the people of Hangzhou, eastern China’s Zhejiang province, for the longest karaoke singing relay. Shortly after the countdown to New Year, singers were already on day 9 of a non-stop karaoke marathon which lasted 214 hours, 20 minutes and eight seconds. More karaoke than you could shake a stick at, close to 2000 people sang over 3000 songs! You should try downloading online karaoke songs to see if you could beat the record.
Longest individual karaoke marathon
In February of this year, a South Korean housewife broke the world record for longest individual continuous karaoke singing. At a local bar, Kim Sun-Ok sang for a solid 76 hours including allotted breaks.
Best selling song of all time
With Christmas fast approaching you’ve probably heard this song several times in coffee shops and malls already. Bing Crosby’s 1942 recording of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” was his best-selling recording, going on to become the best-selling single and best-selling song of all time. The song has sold over 100 million copies worldwide, with at least 50 million sales as singles.
Most people singing national anthem at same time
Over 264,000 Jews around the world sang Hatikva simultaneously, as part of the international celebration of Israel’s 60th anniversary. Aside from Israel itself groups sang in multiple venues across Canada, and the U.S., as well as in Argentina, Greece, Mexico, Ukraine, Moscow, France, Netherlands, England, and Romania. This is also the largest Jewish related event to have ever taken place.
Greatest singer of all time
According to Rolling Stone’s blue-ribbon panel of 179 experts, Aretha “Queen of Soul” Franklin comes in at number one in their books of all time greatest singers. With 21 Grammy Awards, including a Living Legend Grammy and the Lifetime Achievement Grammy, 20 #1 hit singles, and over twice that amount in the top 40 on billboard charts, and after having influenced just about every female R & B, soul singer out there, me thinks they chose wisely.
And now for some less traditional categories, which may not necessarily remain as objective or recognized by sources like Rolling Stone or Guiness, but what they lack in information they easily make up in entertainment.
Worst singer
There are certainly worse out there but this remains classic so many reasons.
